FLU AND COVID 19 VACCINES AVAILABLE AT WREXHAM WALK IN CLINICS
Eligible adults in Wrexham can now receive their NHS flu or Autumn COVID 19 vaccines at walk in clinics without an appointment starting Monday, December 8. The initiative aims to enhance protection against serious illness this winter, as flu infections in the region have reached their highest levels since 2022. During October and November, approximately 250 individuals required inpatient care after contracting the flu.
Both vaccines can reduce the risk of infection, lessen symptom severity, and decrease the likelihood of transmission to others.

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE ANNUAL NHS FLU VACCINE
The flu vaccine will be available to all individuals in North Wales aged 65 and over, as well as adults under 65 with certain health conditions, including asthma, diabetes, and heart conditions. NHS and healthcare workers, social care staff, and carers are also eligible to protect themselves and those they care for.
Pregnant women will receive the flu vaccine as part of their routine health checks. Children aged two and three (as of August 31, 2025) can receive a painless nasal spray flu vaccine at their GP surgery. Schoolchildren from Reception to Year 11 may still receive the spray vaccine at catch up clinics organized by school immunization teams. Further details will be provided through their schools.
ELIGIBILITY FOR THE AUTUMN COVID 19 VACCINE
Following Welsh Government guidance, only adults at the highest risk of severe illness from COVID 19 will be invited to receive the Autumn COVID 19 vaccine in 2025. This includes:
All adults aged 75 or over
Residents of care homes for older adults
Adults and children aged six months or older with weakened immune systems due to health conditions or medical treatment
HEALTH OFFICIALS URGE VACCINATION
A spokesperson for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board stated, "We encourage everyone eligible for both vaccines who has not yet received them to get vaccinated as soon as possible. We also urge older adults and pregnant women to take up the offer of RSV vaccination when contacted."
Health officials anticipate a continued rise in flu cases over the coming weeks as families and friends gather for Christmas celebrations and spend more time indoors together.
