Vietnam’s Urban Projects Embrace ESG for Sustainable Living

URBAN PLANNING AND THE FUTURE OF METROPOLITAN EXPANSION
From a planning perspective, such zones facilitate the expansion of metropolitan areas and foster the development of polycentric cities. These urban models create stronger connections between urban and suburban regions, enhancing overall spatial integration.
However, Doanh cautions that sheer size should not be the primary objective. Instead, the ultimate focus must remain on improving the quality of life for residents. Even smart city initiatives, he argues, are merely tools designed to serve a greater purpose: people centric urban living where happiness and well being are the ultimate goals.
ESG AND BEYOND: A NEW PARADIGM IN URBAN DEVELOPMENT
Doanh highlights that Vietnam is evolving beyond traditional "eco city" and "green city" models, shifting toward development guided by ESG principles—Environmental, Social, and Governance considerations. Progressive developers are now adopting "ESG++" frameworks, which incorporate resilience and regeneration into the core ESG structure.
A notable example of this approach is Vinhomes Green Paradise in Can Gio, Ho Chi Minh City. While financial resources are essential for the success of such ambitious projects, they alone are insufficient. Strong governance, long term vision, and adaptability are equally critical.
"The larger the project, the greater the need for sustainability," Doanh emphasized. "These mega urban zones not only generate internal value but also shape the identity and long term quality of cities, both in the present and for future generations."
